What is athlete's foot?
Athlete's foot (tinea pedis) is a fungal skin infection that affects the feet and is primarily caused by a group of fungi called dermatophytes. Despite its name, anyone can catch athlete's foot and it is most commonly found in warm, humid environments such as shoes, socks, change rooms, showers and around swimming pools.

Athlete's foot is most commonly found between the toes. However, it may also appear on the soles, heels and sides of the feet and in this case is known as moccasin-type tinea pedis.

What are the symptoms?
Having athlete's foot may feel uncomfortable and painful, especially with stubborn, recurrent and untreated infections.

You might have athlete's foot if you experience:
- Itching or burning toes and feet
- Scaly, very dry, cracked or peeling skin
- Redness between the toes
- Splitting, softening or whitening skin between the toes
- An unpleasant odour

What are the causes?
Athlete's foot is contagious and can be transmitted directly through skin-to-skin contact with an infected person.

Athlete's foot can also be transmitted indirectly via floors (eg: walking barefoot in public showers, gyms or changing rooms), towels, socks or shoes.

Tight-fitting clothes and closed shoes that cause the skin to sweat provide the fungus with the warm, humid environment that it needs to thrive and spread.

Athlete's foot treatment
The best and most effective way to treat athlete's foot is a topical antifungal medication.
Lamisil offers a range of products that contain terbinafine - an antifungal active ingredient that kills the fungi, soothes the symptoms and prevents athlete's foot from coming back for up to 3 months.

Lamisil Once forms a smooth and barely visible film that rapidly releases the active ingredient to the skin that works to kill the fungi which cause athlete's foot.

Directions For Use:
Lamisil Once is applied only once. Each tube is for a single application and has enough medication to treat both feet. Apply Lamisil Once to both feet, even in areas where your skin looks healthy. Most people with athlete's foot have the infection on both feet, even when signs of infection such as itching and scaling are present on only one foot. Treating both feet at once may help prevent re-infection. Do not apply to skin a second time for the same episode of athlete's foot.

Steps:
1. Wash both feet and hands and dry carefully.
2. Remove the cap from the tube.
3. Use about 1/2 a tube for each foot, to cover skin. Finish one foot before treating the other.
4. Apply to each foot with fingers. Apply first between, under, and over all toes. Then apply over sole and sides of your foot. It is important to treat your whole foot, and not only the areas that show signs of infection. Treat the other foot in the same way.
5. Spread quickly and evenly. Do not rub or massage into skin.
6. Leave the product to dry for 1-2 minutes. It will dry quickly to a colourless film.
7. Replace the cap on the tube and discard any remaining product. Do not keep or give the remaining product to other people.
8. Wash your hands with warm soapy water after the application.
9. You may wear socks and shoes once the film has dried.

Important: Athlete's foot treatment should not be stopped prematurely
Even if symptoms subside, this may not mean that athlete's foot infection has been eliminated. If treatment is stopped prematurely, athlete's foot may come back. Lamisil Once is for external use only. Not suitable for treatment of fungal infections of the soles and heels or fungal nail infections. Use with caution where your skin is inflamed or broken. For adults and children 15 years and over. Do not use Lamisil Once if you are allergic to terbinafine or to any of the other ingredients listed. Do not use it after the expiry date printed on the pack. Do not use if the tube seal is missing or broken, or if the packaging is torn or shows signs of tampering.
