MICROSHIELD 4 is a topical antiseptic solution with 4% chlorhexidine gluconate for cleaning the skin and has the added indication as a surgical hand scrub/wash and preoperative body wash.

Warnings

Do not use if sensitive or allergic to chlorhexidine. For external use only. Avoid contact with eyes and ears. If in eyes or ears, rinse thoroughly with water. Mild irritation may occur, discontinue use if it becomes severe.

Common Uses

MICROSHIELD 4 is an approved surgical scrub and preoperative or presurgical body wash.

Use before a surgical or invasive medical procedure where the skin is broken, to reduce the bacterial load on the skin before going to the hospital. This helps to reduce the risk of bacteria entering the wound or surgical site during the procedure when the skin is cut or pierced.

May be recommended for use the day before or for several days leading up to surgery by your medical or healthcare provider.

Ingredients

Active ingredients: Chlorhexidine gluconate 4% w/v

Directions

Use undiluted.

If using as a hand wash, wet hands. Apply MICROSHIELD 4 to the skin and rub gently over all the surfaces of the hands including the spaces between the fingers. Rinse well and dry hands.

For preoperative body washing, wet skin and apply MICROSHIELD 4 to a clean wash cloth or directly onto skin and work into a light lather all over the body - starting from the neck down. Pay extra attention to the armpits, genitals, bottocks and skin folds. Leave on skin for at least 1 minute, before thoroughly rinsing off. Dry with a fresh clean towel and wear clean clothes.
