Prescription Only Medicine. Tenofovir disoproxil 245 mg emtricitabine 200 mg. Tenofovir Disoproxil Emtricitabine is indicated in combination with safer sex practices for pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP) to reduce the risk of sexually acquired HIV-1 in adults at high risk. This indication is based on clinical trials in men who have sex with men (MSM) at high risk for HIV-1 infection and in heterosexual serodiscordant couples. This medicine has risks and benefits. How to take this medication:
- Speak to your prescriber first about how to take this medication.
- Generally, it is taken as a single daily pill. One pill, once a day.
- Other dosing regimens do exist, and your prescriber can educate you on these if appropriate.
How to continue taking this medication:
- You will need to see your prescriber to receive a repeat prescription after 90 tablets.
- This can take some time as Blood and STI tests are needed first.
- Arrange more medication early, by speaking to your prescriber before you run out.
How to stop taking this medication:
- Speak to your prescriber before stopping this medication.
- It is important to continue this medication for 7 days after your last potential HIV exposure.
