Amino acids are found in protein and support several functions within the body. They are classified as "essential" or "non-essential". Essential amino acids cannot be made within the body and must be supplied by the diet and non- essential amino acids can be made within the body.
Amino acids support normal production and function of hormones, enzymes, neurotransmitters, antibodies, and nutrient carriers. A suboptimal intake of the essential amino acids increases the body's need for the non-essential amino acids. Foods that increase amino acid intake are protein foods like meat, beans, cheese, and eggs.
L-glutathione is a non-essential amino acid, and although it can be created within the body, supplementation can assist dietary intake. It is an antioxidant which supports liver function and immune system function.
